New Director of CCU
Registered Nurse Vanessa Barnes was recently named LVMC’s Critical Care Unit Director . An employee since 2011, she is now responsible for the six-bed unit, and about 20 staff members.
Barnes, who this year earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing, or BSN, previously was a charge nurse and an Emergency Room nurse. For the past year and a half, she worked as the hospital’s House Supervisor.
Her interest in nursing began late in high school, when her mother became ill. While her mother was being treated, she “didn’t want to leave her side. I saw what nurses did. I said, ‘This is what I want to do.’”
New Laboratory Director
Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Richard D. Hayden, (Rich) has joined the staff of Lompoc Valley Medical Center as Director of Laboratory Services. He retired from the Navy’s Medical Service Corps on Sept. 1.
Disaster Preparedness Event
On Saturday, May 2 from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Lompoc Fire Department, in partnership with Home Depot, will host a disaster preparedness event in the parking lot of Home Depot at 1701 E. Ocean Ave.
The event will consist of numerous interactive displays by the Lompoc Valley Medical Center in addition to other preparedness partners such as the American Red Cross, Aware and Prepare, Santa Barbara County Fire, Lompoc CERT, PG&E, Vandenberg AFB Fire Department, the Fire Safe Council, The Gas Company, the Lompoc Fire Foundation, the U.S. Forest Service and others.

Dr. Harry Goldwasser is a Psychiatrist and is board certified in Addiction Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed a residency in Psychiatry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Goldwasser joined the staff of Lompoc Valley Medical Center in September of 2014 coming to us from Tucson, Arizona.
The LVMC Hematology-Oncology Service seeks to provide a treatment program individualized to the specific needs of every patient. Dr. Donna Walker is a board certified Oncologist. She received her medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine and completed a residency in Internal Medicine as well as a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, all at UCLA.
