Foundation kicks off fundraising campaign

The new Lompoc Valley Medical Center, being constructed at 1515 East Ocean Ave., is nearing completion 8 complete enough to host a luncheon Monday to mark the beginning of a fundraising campaign to give the center some finishing touches.

Representatives from the Lompoc Hospital Foundation and the medical center?s board of directors, spoke briefly about the progress made on the building so far.

Walkathon helps fund hospital

Walkers old and young gathered Saturday at Ryon Park to participate in the Lompoc Hospital Foundation Walkathon to raise money for the Lompoc Valley Medical Center Building Fund.

The new hospital is scheduled to open in March. It is being constructed with voter-approved bonds, but the bond revenue cannot be used to buy furniture and equipment. The building fund will help fill that gap.

Hospital campaign kicks in

It has been fascinating to watch the construction of our new community hospital blossom like a beautiful flower. Very soon it will be completed, with occupancy scheduled for March.

The Lompoc Healthcare District Board of Directors made a wise decision when they elected to build a new hospital for this community. As a result, we will be able to enjoy excellent medical care with state-of-the-art equipment and services.

Charitable IRA Legislation

On October 3, 2008, the President signed the charitable IRA legislation. This charitable option allows donors aged 70.5 or older to move $100,000 per year from their IRA directly to an eligible charity without having to pay income taxes on the money.

Our 19th Annual Walk-a-thon

Coming Saturday, September 19, 2009

The 19th Annual Lompoc Hospital Foundation Walk-a-Thon is a five-mile or 5K (3-mile) walk on a designated route in Lompoc. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The five-mile walk will take approximately two hours to complete. The walk starts at 9:00 a.m. and should be completed by 11:00 a.m. The walk starts and ends at Ryon Park at Ocean Avenue and O Street in Lompoc.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Lompoc Hospital Foundation or would like more information about the Foundation, please call the Foundation office at 737-5762, or contact June Schwartz at 733-3119.

The Foundation has no fees, no dues for membership and no special qualifications are required beyond your willingness to give a little of your time and effort in the cause of better health
