Lompoc Valley Medical Center welcomes board-certified Family Medicine physician Viet M. Do, D.O., to its medical staff, bringing more than two decades of experience in family medicine, primary care, urgent care and integrative medicine to the Lompoc Valley. 

Dr. Do is currently seeing patients at Lompoc Health – Urgent Care and will transition later this fall to Lompoc Health – Village Center, LVMC’s new clinic in Vandenberg Village. At the Village Center, Dr. Do will provide Family Medicine services while also helping provide access for patients who need same-day care. 

The move to Lompoc marks a new chapter for Dr. Do, who spent much of his career practicing in larger California communities, including Redlands, Oakland, Fremont and Fresno. 

After nearly 10 years as a senior partner physician with Beaver Medical Group in Redlands, Dr. Do stepped away from medicine in 2021 to spend more time with his family and travel. With his daughter Ella now grown and pursuing a Ph.D. in Geosciences at the University of Bologna, Italy, he decided the time was right to return to medicine -- and to experience practicing in a smaller community. 

“I’ve worked in cities for most of my career, so this is a big change for me,” Dr. Do said. “I wanted to explore a new life adventure and see what it is like to work in a small town. I’ve really enjoyed the openness and nature here, the weather and the people. The patients have been very appreciative of the care and I’ve enjoyed that.” 

Dr. Do earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University and completed his Family Practice residency at the University of California San Francisco Fresno Center. He has been board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine since 2005. 

His professional background includes primary care, internal medicine and urgent care, as well as private practice in integrative medicine incorporating acupuncture and osteopathy. 

Dr. Do said his osteopathic medical training has influenced the way he approaches patient care throughout his career. 

“Osteopathic medicine looks at the patient holistically and recognizes that everything in the body works together,” he said. “I like being able to give patients practical things they can do in addition to medication -- whether that is exercise, movement or other ways to help improve their health. It’s about looking at the whole person.” 

That philosophy will be an important part of his Family Medicine practice at the Village Center, where Dr. Do looks forward to establishing ongoing relationships with patients and helping expand convenient access to care for residents of Vandenberg Village and surrounding areas. 

“The proximity will be a real benefit for people who live near the clinic,” Dr. Do said. “They’ll have access to a regular doctor, but if they need to be seen the same day, we want to be able to help with that as well. Having that care nearby, without always having to drive into town, will be nice for patients.” 

Dr. Do’s career has included serving as a primary care physician at David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base and working in Internal Medicine and Urgent Care with Kaiser Permanente in Oakland and Fremont. Earlier in his career, he also operated a private integrative medicine practice in Walnut Creek. 

Before attending medical school, Dr. Do spent five years working in research in the Boston area, including at MIT and Harvard Medical School. It was during that time that he became interested in the distinctive philosophy and hands-on aspects of osteopathic medicine. In Boston, Dr. Do also met his wife, Chau-Bao Nguyen, where she was attending pharmacy school.  

As he begins this new stage of his career, Dr. Do said he is looking forward to becoming part of the Lompoc Valley, both as a physician and as a member of the community. 

“I’m here to experience not only a new chapter in my medical career, but also the culture of a small town,” Dr. Do said. “I want to bring good care to the people here, using the perspective of modern medicine while giving patients a good experience when they come to see their doctor.”
