Anyone caring for an aging parent, spouse, relative or other loved one is invited to attend “Conversations Around Caregiving,” a free community event designed to provide practical information, local resources and support for the caregiving journey.

The event will be held Sat., Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dick DeWees Community & Senior Center, 1120 W. Ocean Ave. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.

“Conversations Around Caregiving” will bring together local organizations and service providers to help caregivers learn about resources available in the Lompoc Valley and surrounding area, while also providing an opportunity to connect with others who understand the responsibilities and challenges that come with caregiving.

The event will include practical caregiving tips and tools, information from local organizations and service providers, wellness activities and opportunities for caregivers to take some time for themselves.

During “Conversations Around Caregiving,” attendees will hear from several presenters, including Family Service Agency’s De Rosenberry speaking about “Self Care: Managing Burnout and Guilt;” Coast Caregiver Resource Center’s Renee Cowans speaking about “Respite Care and Local Resources” and Compass Plus; Debbie McComb talking about “Trusts, Important Documents and Advance Planning.”

The event includes time for attendees to meet one-on-one with service providers, to gain information.

A complimentary boxed lunch will be provided, with vegetarian options available. Participants will also receive a caregiver gift and have opportunities for giveaways and additional resources. A laughter yoga wellness activity will be among the activities offered during the event.

The program is presented by the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation, in conjunction with the City of Lompoc Recreation Division, Caring Together Santa Barbara County, Family Service Agency, Coast Caregiver Resource Center and Compass Plus.

The event is generously sponsored by Superior Home Health, Hospice and Senior Services.

Advance registration is requested by Oct. 30. To RSVP, call 805-737-5762 or email events@lhdfoundation.org.

Transportation assistance is also available through Community Partners in Caring. Those needing transportation may call 805-925-8000 to become a client and reserve transportation at least seven days in advance of the event.

“Conversations Around Caregiving” is intended to create a welcoming environment where caregivers can gather information, make connections and learn more about the services available to help them care for their loved ones -- and themselves.
