Technology & Innovation Update

LVMC's Information Systems teams are working on several initiatives to strengthen patient care, modernize our systems, and keep our organization secure. Here are the highlights.
Oncology Clinic Moving to SCM
Our Hematology-Oncology clinic is preparing to transition from eClinicalWorks to Altera Sunrise Clinical Manager (the same EHR used at the acute). When complete, Oncology providers, nurses, and support staff will work from a single patient chart shared with the rest of the organization, reducing duplicate documentation and improving care coordination for patients seen across multiple LVMC departments. Design and configuration work is underway now, with go-live planned for the end of April 2027.
Building the Village Center Clinic from the Ground Up
As construction progresses on LVMC's new clinic in Vandenberg Village, IS is building the complete technology infrastructure that will support patient care from day one. The clinic will include a dedicated high-speed network connection to the main hospital campus, a full wireless network, new phone system, security cameras, a nurse call system, and tap-n-go badge access for every computer.
New Phone System Coming to LVMC
LVMC is replacing its aging phone system organization-wide. Every department will receive new desk phones with improved audio quality and reliability. Your voicemail and Ascom clinical communication devices are not changing , those systems will continue to work the same way and your number will not change. Rollout is expected to begin in November. More details will be shared as your department's transition date approaches.
New Technology Governance Committee
LVMC has established a Technology Governance Committee (TGC) to provide cross-functional oversight of health information technology decisions. The TGC expands the scope of the former EHR Steering Committee to include artificial intelligence, information security, and data governance, ensuring that technology decisions are made with input from clinical, operational, and compliance leadership. The committee held its first meeting in September 2026.
Cybersecurity Is Everyone's Responsibility
Cyber threats targeting healthcare organizations continue to increase nationwide. LVMC staff have received phone and Teams calls from individuals impersonating IS, vendors, doctors, and even other LVMC employees. These callers may already know your name, department, or job title, but that doesn't mean they're legitimate. LVMC's IS team will never call you and ask for your password. If a caller does any of these things, hang up and call the IS Help Desk directly at 5760. If you're unsure whether a call is real, hang up and call 5760.
