Lompoc Valley Medical Center is now accepting applications for its Patient and Family Advisory Council, or PFAC.
The volunteer advisory group is a partnership between the hospital’s healthcare professionals and the surrounding community.
Applications are available online at lompocvmc.com/pfac and are due by Sept. 15.
The aim of the PFAC is to:
- Help shape the quality of care and services at LVMC
- Provide valuable insights to improve patient experience
- Work alongside hospital staff and leadership to create solutions
- Ensure the needs of patients and families are being heard and addressed
Members will work to ensure patients and families have a voice to influence culture change in hospital processes, raise awareness about hospital programs and improve patient safety and outcomes.
Initially created in 2016, the original PFAC went into hiatus due to the Covid pandemic. Original members helped promote the installation of an award display case at the hospital lobby entrance, to hold awards given for meeting quality measures. Other initiatives included facilitating the donation of a mobile playroom cart full of toys for young patients having operations or recovering in the medical-surgical unit as a way to make the hospital a less frightening experience for children. Members also participated in “rounding,” or visiting Medical-Surgical unit patients to hear compliments and complaints and determine what improvements in care were needed. Another project led to the creation of a discharge folder to organize hospital paperwork and instructions for patients following outpatient surgeries and inpatient stays.
Community members may apply and learn more information by visiting lompocvmc.com/pfac. Any other questions may be directed topfac@lompocvmc.com.
