At Lompoc Valley Medical Center (LVMC), we believe that caring for a new mother means more than just a safe delivery. It means wrapping care around the entire experience --mind, body, and baby --from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond.
As a community hospital rooted in personalized care, we’ve designed our Birthing Center services to ensure every mother feels heard, supported, and empowered throughout her journey into parenthood.
Caring for the Body: Safe, Personalized Birth Experiences
Your physical comfort and safety are our top priorities. At LVMC, our Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) suites allow you to labor, give birth, recover and bond with your baby all in the same private, home-like room. This unique setup creates a more relaxed and seamless experience for you and your family.
Our experienced team of OB/GYNs, anesthesia providers and labor and delivery nurses work closely with you to honor your birth preferences -- whether you choose natural labor, epidural anesthesia, or require a C-section. With 24/7 anesthesia coverage, cutting-edge surgical care, and a compassionate nursing staff, we’re ready to support you every step of the way.
Our team also provides:
- Evidence-based pain management options
- Gentle, respectful C-section experiences
- Birth plan support and preparation resources
Supporting the Mind: Emotional Wellness and Postpartum Care
We recognize that your mental and emotional health is just as important as your physical recovery. That’s why we’ve integrated postpartum emotional wellness into every stage of care.
Before discharge and during follow-up visits, our team checks in on your emotional well-being using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) -- a screening tool to help identify signs of postpartum depression or anxiety.
If you need additional support, we provide:
- Referrals to mental health counselors
- One-on-one check-ins with OB nurses
- Access to the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline (1-833-852-6262)
- Breastfeeding and newborn support groups that double as safe spaces for emotional check-ins
You’re never alone in your journey -- and asking for help is always encouraged and supported at LVMC.
Nurturing the Bond: Infant Care and Parent Education
Welcoming a new baby is both exciting and overwhelming. That’s why LVMC offers a range of education and support services to help you feel confident in caring for your newborn.
We provide:
- Weekend childbirth education classes
- Breastfeeding support with an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and trained educators
- Newborn care education during your hospital stay
- Safe sleep education as a Silver Certified Safe Sleep Hospital
- Support with registering for your baby’s birth certificate and understanding postpartum recovery
We also connect families with a trusted team of Lompoc Health pediatricians who provide newborn care and beyond, so you have continuity of care after going home.
Whole-Family Support in a Whole-Hearted Setting
Every mother deserves holistic care -- care that supports physical healing, emotional wellness, and the transition into motherhood. At LVMC, we see the mother, not just the patient.
We know your journey is uniquely yours. Our goal is to meet you exactly where you are—with the warmth, respect, and expertise that make our Birthing Center feel like home.
