A unique community experience will blend nutritional education with hands-on learning, using locally sourced fresh produce at “Nourish Lompoc: Pasta Fagioli” on Jan. 31, 2026 at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center.
The free event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and RSVPs are recommended but not required. The center is located at 1120 W. Ocean Ave. Space will be limited and on a first-come, first-served basis for those who do not register in advance.
Route One Farmers Market Executive Director Shelby Wild will provide basic cooking skill demonstrations and nutrition information during the afternoon. She will use vegetables purchased by Route One from local farms, through funding from the Farms Together Program.
Guided by instructors, attendees will learn how to turn the surplus, seasonal produce into a delicious, healthy meal. Attendees must participate in the education class in order to take home freshly made soup at the conclusion of the event.
The event is sponsored by the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation and Route One Farmers Market, with assistance from the Farms Together Program and the City of Lompoc Recreation and Parks division.
Route One will also have its mobile farmers market on site the day of the event, providing free vegetables and fruit to participants, while supplies last.
Lompoc Valley Medical Center Registered Dietitian Patricia Bergstrom will assist at the event to answer nutritional questions. She has been with LVMC for more than two years and earned a bachelor’s degree in Foods, Nutrition and Wellness Studies from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
To reserve a seat at Nourish, please call LVMC Director of Marketing and Fund Development Heather Woolsey at 805-737-5752 or email woolseyh@lompocvmc.com.
