As communities across the nation confront the devastating impact of the fentanyl epidemic, the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation offers a free public lecture to provide critical, lifesaving information on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose.
This educational event begins at 6 p.m. on March 18 at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center. The center is located at 1120 W. Ocean Ave. Reservations are not required.
In this presentation by speaker W. Scott Burns, attendees will learn about practical tools, local resources and receive step-by-step guidance on administering overdose-reversal medications. Burns is a member of the Santa Barbara Sunrise Rotary Club and for the past several years has been providing free training to assist people in learning about reversing fentanyl overdoses. He is the California State Director of Rotary Action Group, Addiction Prevention.
This presentation, part of the Foundation’s Community Education Lecture Series, is designed for families, teachers, caregivers and anyone who wants to be prepared to make a difference in such an emergency.
Burns will speak about local and national overdose statistics, resources available, medications used to reverse opioid overdoses and provide step-by-step instructions on how to recognize an overdose.
