Lompoc Valley Medical Center and Lompoc Health are pleased to welcome board-certified Internal Medicine physician Dr. Soumya Yeturi to the medical staff.
Dr. Yeturi is now seeing patients at Lompoc Health – North Third Center.
She is one of four new physicians joining Lompoc Health in the coming months, representing a significant expansion of services aimed at meeting the growing demand for care in the Lompoc Valley.
Dr. Yeturi earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Government Kurnool Medical College in Kurnool, India. She later completed her Internal Medicine residency at The Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, a teaching affiliate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University.
She is licensed to practice medicine in California, Colorado and New York. Most recently, Dr. Yeturi served as a senior physician with Colorado Permanente Medical Group in Denver.
An Internal Medicine physician, also known as an “internist,” specializes in the comprehensive care of adults, diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions from common illnesses to complex chronic diseases. Dr. Yeturi has a special interest in diabetes management and preventive care, helping patients maintain long-term health and wellness.
“I feel like internal medicine touches everything,” Dr. Yeturi said. “It doesn’t just focus on one issue. It’s about caring for the whole patient, and prevention is a major interest of mine.”
She said the specialty appealed to her because it allows physicians to develop long-term relationships with patients and provide continuity of care.
“The continuity is what I really love about internal medicine,” she said. “You’re able to follow patients over time and truly help them manage their health.”
Dr. Yeturi’s path to medicine began in a small rural community in India, where she became the first in her immediate family to pursue a medical career. She credits her father, a rice farmer in their town of about 10,000 people, with supporting her education and inspiring her to succeed.
“I always wanted to take care of people,” she said. “Seeing my parents and others in our community travel long distances to get medical help really inspired me.”
When she was in eighth grade, a cousin moved to the United States to become a pediatrician, providing a role model that further encouraged her interest in medicine.
When considering a move from Denver, Dr. Yeturi said she was looking for the opportunity to practice community-based medicine. Lompoc felt like a natural fit because of her roots in a smaller community.
Prior to visiting for interviews, she had never been to California. After spending time in the region, she and her husband, Ram, quickly discovered they enjoy the Central Coast lifestyle, particularly hiking and outdoor activities.
The couple has two daughters – Anoosha is studying at New York University and Varsha is studying at UC San Diego.
“I’m excited to be in Lompoc and serve the community,” Dr. Yeturi said. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience here and helping care for the people of this community.”
