Lifestyle Medicine focuses on healthy nutrition, exercise/activity, quality sleep, stress management, having purpose and connection, as well as minimizing harmful substances. I cheer, educate, and encourage, in whatever combination works for my patients, to move toward better health. I try to encourage lifestyle changes before medications when possible and safe, with the goal of improving or even reversing chronic conditions. I liken it to the analogy of an overflowing sink – Western medicine is often focused on mopping up the mess, but lifestyle medicine focuses on turning off the faucet. Whether with baby steps or giant leaps, I believe we can all improve our health and optimize wellness as it relates to each individual.
