Inspire® Sleep Apnea Treatment

Can’t Tolerate CPAP? Inspire® May Be A Solution

If you’ve been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) but struggle to use a CPAP machine consistently, you’re not alone. Many patients find CPAP uncomfortable, noisy, or difficult to maintain. That’s where Inspire® therapy comes in — a breakthrough, mask-free treatment option for sleep apnea that works from inside your body, not around it.

Inspire is a small, implantable device that monitors your breathing and gently stimulates key airway muscles during sleep, helping to keep your airway open. It’s placed during a same-day, outpatient procedure and is controlled by a simple handheld remote.

How Inspire Works

  • Implantation: A small device is implanted just under the skin of your chest, with a lead that stimulates the hypoglossal nerve (which controls tongue movement).
  • Activation: About a month after the procedure, the device is activated and customized to your unique breathing pattern.
  • Nightly Use: Before bed, you simply turn Inspire on with the remote. The device gently stimulates the airway muscles during sleep — no mask, hose, or noise involved.
  • Sleep Naturally: Because it syncs with your natural breathing rhythm, Inspire allows you to breathe freely and sleep more soundly without disruptive equipment.

Who Qualifies for Inspire?

You may be a candidate for Inspire if:

  • You have been diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
  • You are unable to tolerate or benefit from CPAP therapy
  • You are not significantly overweight (BMI within a certain range)
  • You do not have certain other medical conditions that would interfere with implant surgery or function

Eligibility is determined through a sleep study and evaluation by a sleep specialist. Our team at LVMC can walk you through every step of the process.

What Results Can You Expect?

Inspire has been clinically proven to reduce apnea episodes and improve daytime alertness, mood and quality of life. Most patients report:

  • Fewer interruptions in sleep
  • Less snoring
  • Increased energy and focus during the day
  • Improved overall health and wellness

Inspire is FDA-approved and covered by most insurance providers, including Medicare.
