What We Treat

At LVMC’s Sleep Disorder Center, we care for patients experiencing a wide variety of sleep-related concerns. Sleep disorders can affect your energy, memory, mood, immune function and long-term health — but with the right diagnosis and care plan, restful sleep is within reach.

Here are some of the most common conditions we treat:

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): A condition where the airway becomes partially or completely blocked during sleep, causing loud snoring, gasping and repeated awakenings. OSA is linked to serious health risks such as heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure — but it’s highly treatable with therapies like CPAP or Inspire®.
  • Central Sleep Apnea: Unlike OSA, this form of apnea occurs when the brain doesn’t consistently send the proper signals to the muscles that control breathing. It’s often associated with underlying medical conditions or medication use and requires specialized evaluation and care.
  • Insomnia: Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early and not being able to fall back asleep. Insomnia may be short-term or chronic and can be driven by stress, anxiety, pain, or changes in routine.
  • Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS): A neurological condition marked by an irresistible urge to move your legs — especially in the evening or at night. RLS can severely impact your ability to fall and stay asleep.
  • Narcolepsy: A chronic condition that affects the brain’s ability to regulate sleep-wake cycles. It can cause excessive daytime sleepiness, sudden loss of muscle tone (cataplexy), and disrupted nighttime sleep.
  • REM Behavior Disorder: A sleep disorder in which a person physically acts out vivid, often violent dreams during REM sleep. This condition can be a warning sign of neurodegenerative disorders and should be evaluated by a sleep specialist.
  • Snoring and Nighttime Breathing Issues: While snoring alone may seem harmless, it can be a sign of a more serious underlying disorder such as sleep apnea. Loud, persistent snoring — especially with pauses in breathing—should be evaluated through a sleep study.
