LVMC Surgeon to Speak about Setting the Standard for Robotic Surgery

Dr. Christopher Taglia, F.A.C.S., F.A.S.M.B.S., D.A.B.O.M., will present an informative lecture on the establishment and success of LVMC’s Robotic Surgery program during a free lecture July 15.
The free lecture begins at 6 p.m. and will take place at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center, 1120 W. Ocean Ave.
LVMC’s first surgery using the da Vinci XI Single Console Robotic System occurred in 2021. As a Master Robotic Surgeon, Dr. Taglia has performed close to 1,000 robotic surgeries in the past five years and is a is a general, minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon at LVMC.
After achieving high quality outcomes and performing a significant volume of robotic cases, LVMC earned “Center of Excellence” accreditation in 2022 from the Surgical Review Corp. It was the first such designation for a hospital on the Central Coast.
Dr. Taglia will discuss:
- What it means to be a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery
- Current robotic capabilities and techniques at LVMC
- Future applications of robotic technology and artificial intelligence
Dr. Taglia is the Director of Robotic Surgery at LVMC and sees patients at Lompoc Health – North H Center.
Dr. Taglia attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and completed his residency in general surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgeries at North Shore University Hospital in Long Island, New York. He specializes in advanced laparoscopic surgery, weight-loss surgery, endoscopy, anti-reflux surgery and hernia repair.
The lecture is part of the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation’s Community Education Committee’s free lecture series to enhance community education about health-related topics.
