LVMC Perinatal Team Earns BETA Healthcare Awards for Patient Safety and Care

Lompoc Valley Medical Center’s perinatal team has been recognized for achieving the highest standards of care by the BETA Healthcare Group.

Led by Perinatal Services Manager Angela Fichtner, BSN, RNC-OB, the department was cited for its “meticulous preparation.”

BETA is California’s largest provider of professional liability coverage for hospitals and provides coverage to more than 600 hospitals and healthcare facilities.

To achieve BETA recognition, all members of specific hospital teams complete rigorous training and education with evidence-based programs.

The hospital’s obstetrics providers and nursing team successfully met BETA Healthcare Group’s Tier One and Tier Two requirements from 2025-26.

These include:

  • Completing Fetal Heart Monitoring v2 learning modules
  • Adopting common terminology to describe fetal monitoring
  • Focusing on the reduction of primary cesarean sections and the promotion of vaginal deliveries for first-time mothers
  • Implementing a hemorrhage protocol for the management of obstetrical hemorrhage

Achieving these milestones, according to BETA, is “a truly remarkable testament to your unwavering dedication to patient safety and to the delivery of exceptional care to mothers and newborns.”

“The Lompoc Valley team is recognized for its thoughtful, innovative efforts to enhance care delivery, welcoming a nurse-midwife to the provider team and supporting the growth of new graduate RNs. Their continued development and collaboration are reflected in positive patient feedback and in the care they provide,” noted Narcisa Palam, MBA, BSN, manager of Risk Management and Patient Safety-Perinatal for BETA Healthcare Group.

An award will be bestowed upon the department at BETA’s annual Member Symposium in the fall.
